Isikcan Aysev

Turkish working in Dubai, UAE
Company: Consultant at A.T Kearney in Dubai
Time at NHH: MIB 2006-2008

Professional experience: I am currently working for a management consultancy firm, A.T. Kearney, in Dubai.

Academic focus at NHH: During my time at NHH, I studied international business in combination with the CEMS degree. At NHH I received a world-class education; a solid grounding in economics, in addition to exposure to specialized subjects such as oil & gas.

About NHH: Both my time at NHH and in CEMS allowed me to build a diverse international network of friends and colleagues. In addition, NHH has the most active student body and hence the best social environment. I find NHH students to be people who are very competent in their subjects, analytically superb, but also with a keen sense of initiative. The environment at NHH is ripe for social involvement – in the sense that you can take initiative and create something – as the students are keen and school is supportive. These skills that I built at NHH, along with the CEMS brand, helped me first get an internship and then a job at a CEMS partner company.

About NHH: Even though I graduated in the midst of the financial crisis I was able to choose amongst several job offers from attractive employers several months ahead of my graduation. About NHH: NHH provided me with such fantastic opportunities which made the school really stand out in my eyes. NHH really does put in a great effort into creating an engaging environment for every single student.

NHH has also gained a very high standing with Norwegian companies. A solid theoretical foundation together with an extensive network of former classmates makes NHH graduates so attractive to employers. I had a chance to meet some of the most prominent Norwegian and international companies that come to NHH every year to recruit students. A degree from NHH is without a doubt a great addition to one's background, particularly if one is a foreigner looking for work in Norway.

Time at NHH: ENE 2008-2010

Professional experience: After my MSc, I decided to pursue a PhD degree in the field of energy at NHH. I recently started researching on policy instruments designed to promote renewable energy technologies in collaboration with a very well known development institution.

I oriented my studies toward the field of energy, wrote my Master’s thesis in collaboration with the world leader in wind turbine manufacturing and did internships for several energy companies. All in all, the ENE programme provided me with all the necessary tools to successfully pursue an academic career.

About NHH: It might not be an obvious element when selecting a school; however, one should definitely consider flexibility and interactions between students and the academic body. In these two areas, NHH is unique. In fact, after studying in Switzerland, Germany and Norway, NHH has been the only place where I have had the chance to interact regularly with the teachers and other academic employees. On top of it, NHH was the only place which was flexible enough to allow me to do things a little bit differently when opportunities aroused.
