As a place to study, there is no better city in Norway than Bergen. With over 30,000 students in the city, there is always lots of things happening night and day. Bergen is a cultural city, with an active and vibrant nightlife, music festivals, theatres and cinemas. There is also a good variety of restaurants: Italian, Japanese, Indian, Mongolian, Mexican, Chinese etc. besides traditional Norwegian restaurants as well. With a fish market in the heart of the city, seafood is a must for all who stay in Bergen.

From the city centre, it is never far to go for a trip in the mountains for hiking or skiing, a swim in the sea or to simply enjoy the breathtaking scenery at the doorstep.

It is the nature that makes Bergen & Norway such a special place to visit. The Norwegians Fjords were rated the top tourist attraction in the world in 2004 by National Geographic Magazine. Activities naturally vary with the season, but you can find skiing on glaciers in the summer and fishing enthusiasts can fish all year too. Staying in the mountains is a wonderful experience, offering both a challenge and peaceful silence in a majestic setting. There is a vast network of marked hiking trails that can be used for hiking from cabin to cabin, or to explore an area. The glaciers and rivers invite the thrill seeker for glacier walking and white water rafting.

This magnificent landscape and the opportunities it provides is an important part of the Norwegian identity, and it is the closeness to nature that for many non-Norwegians makes Norway such a special place to live, study and work.
