Health and travel insurance
Nordic countries are entitled to free medical treatment according to exisiting conventions between the Nordic countries. Students from EU/EEA countries are entitled to free healthcare as long as they have social security coverage from their home country. They must obtain the European Health Insurance Card (replaces the old E 128 form) entitling them to medical treatment in accordance with the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme. Please note that students from the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland will have to show their passport in order to receive free medical treatment as the UK has not implemented the European Health Insurance Card. Students from outside of the EU/EEA must have social security coverage from their home country or private health insurance for the duration of their stay.
As with all trips abroad, it would be prudent to purchase a general travel, luggage and accident insurance for the duration of the stay in Norway.
More information on health insurance in Norway is available here.
Approximate living costs
The level of prices in Norway is somewhat higher than in many countries, but it is not be necessary to bring all your food with you as an exchange student once did!
