Submission Deadlines for the Master Thesis
It is possible to submit a thesis as soon as it is finish regardless of the time of the year, however for practical and reporting purposes, NHH must operate by semester divisions. NHH considers students who fulfill their degree requirements (thesis submission or passing of the last exam) prior to
June 20 as graduates of the spring semester, and students who complete their degree requirements prior to
December 20 as graduates of the fall semester. It is not possible to submit a thesis after these dates and expect to graduate with the previous semesters’ class.
The thesis is to be submitted together with a form: "
Submission of the Thesis for Grading". In the case that two students have written the thesis in collaboration, there must be one form filled out per student. Should the address line not be filled out, the diploma will be sent to the registered home address.
Copies Needed
The thesis is to be submitted in 3 bound copies to the Infocenter (although sometimes the supervisor may request an extra copy, so contact your supervisor prior to submission), along with an electronic submission to the Examination Office by midnight of the same day. Please send the electronic copy by email to
eksamenskontor@nhh.no.
The three bound copies are distributed by the Infocenter in the following manner:
1 (or 2) copies to the supervisor (internal examiner)
1 copy to the external examiner
1 copy to the NHH Library
Electronic Publishing
Electronic submission involves that students have the possibility to publish the thesis electronically in addition to in hardcopy. If you choose to publish your document electronically, it must be written according to the
template for electronic publishing. The template is available on the library’s homepage. The standard template follows the format and layout requirements same as those according to the master thesis. The use of the template will also make conversion of the file to PDF format easier.
Grading of the Master Study Thesis
Grading of the thesis is undertaken by 2 people, your supervisor and an external examiner. The thesis grade can be expected 6 weeks after the thesis has been submitted for grading.
Diploma, transcript and diploma supplement are issued once the degree has been fulfilled. If you complete your degree in the spring semester and hand in your thesis in June, you can expect to receive the grade in the first half of August and your diploma during the months of August/September.
For a collective thesis both students will receive the same grade. Individuals in a group cannot appeal a grade based on individual reasoning.
Confidential Theses
We generally discourage students from writing confidential theses. Since the school maintains the right to use existing theses in lectures, the fewest possible of these should have a "stamp of secrecy" on them.
In special circumstances where it is not possible to change the contents of the work such that confidential information is omitted, or where it is not possible to give an adequate anonymous account, the supervisor and the student(s) can decide that the thesis should be handled as confidential.
In borrowing a confidential thesis from the library, written permission to do so must first be granted from the author and the students’ supervisor. Once 4 years of confidentiality have passed, the thesis will be treated as a normally accessible thesis for borrowing. All confidential theses will be marked with a date indicating neutralization of confidentiality.
In submitting the final work, please attach a written message that the work must be treated with confidentiality. Confidential works must also be submitted electronically to the Examination Office.
