Thesis are available in the school's library and can also be made available electronically. This involves special requirements for the information indicated on the cover page of the thesis. For this reason, layout and structure are also important – and your thesis should look presentable.
Format and layout
The dissertation must be printed in A4 format, and be printed with a font size of 12 and with 1.5 line spacing. The thesis should be bound, and this can be done at a variety of locations, among others at the Copy Central at NHH. It is your responsibility to contact the Copy Central in due time to arrange for the binding. Please note that the Copy Central does not print copies, it simply binds pre-printed theses together.
Cover Page
The cover page should include the following:
- Norges Handelshøyskole
- Bergen, semester and year of submission
- Which master degree and the major/specialization the thesis applies to
- Name of the thesis advisor
- Title and subtitle (if subtitle exists).
- Authors name
- the following text:
"This thesis was written as a part of the master program at NHH. Neither the institution, the supervisor, nor the censors are - through the approval of this thesis - responsible for neither the theories and methods used, nor results and conclusions drawn in this work."
NB! Because the title will also show up on your transcript, the title of your thesis may contain a maximum of 110 characters).
If you wish to have a model, figure or drawing on your cover page, you can choose to have your title page come on the second page (see example below):

Abstract
Following the cover page, you are expected to have an abstract page with an executive summary of the work, no longer than 100 - 150 words. In full sentences containing the main points, this abstract should give a brief introduction to the contents of the paper.
Table of Contents and Foreword
The thesis must have a table of contents which states on which page the various sections and subsections can be found. The table of contents should be set up such that it gives a clear overview of the dissertations framework and contents. Many students prefer to create separate tables containing tables and figures.
In the foreword you can write a self criticism about the work you have written. You can argue both the weak and strong sides of the thesis, and also explain the reason to which there is a possible deviation from the original framework.
List of References
The thesis must contain a reference list which should be placed in the back of the work.
There are several ways to formulate a reference list, of which you can find examples in the mandatory course readings. The reference list must contain:
"Last name and initials of the author(s) first name
"Full title of the book, periodical or article
"Publisher and place of publishing
"Year of publishing
References in the text can be cited in many ways, if in doubt, please contact the library for assistance.
