The PhD programme

The PhD programme at NHH is a three-year programme starting in August of each year. The programme is designed for those seeking academic research and teaching careers in the study of economics and business administration. It is geared specifically for those whose main interest is scholarly research and teaching, and the majority of our graduates work in academic institutions. Residence is required for the majority of the full-time academic programme's duration.

The overall purpose of the programme is to give the student a deepened and broadened theoretical and methodological knowledge, alongside the experience of having completed a substantial piece of original scientific work. The conferral of the PhD in economics and business administration signifies that the candidate has attained expert competence in a major field of study.

The NHH's faculty are dedicated to research and some 50 chaired professors are active in the area of business administration and economics. The PhD student body is a gathering about 75 men and women working in three different fields of study. The programme fosters close interaction between students and faculty; a rapid shift from student to colleague is experienced by applicants.
