The department represents four main research areas: Organisation Science, Strategic Management, Marketing and Information Management. The department comprises over 35 full-time faculty members and a number of adjunct faculty.
Faculty members represent an active research environment that yearly publishes about thirty articles in international refereed journals. Moreover, fifty to sixty papers are presented at international conferences every year, with many of these based on close collaboration between PhD students and faculty members.
The faculty members are involved in research within in a diversity of fields and topics, such as organisation theory, organisational behaviour, human resource management, change processes, business ethics, corporate strategy, strategic alliances, networks, knowledge management, enterprise systems, decision support systems, ecommerce, brand management, consumer behaviour and service marketing and management.

The NHH three-year PhD programme in Strategy and Management provides training that enables students to produce original research of high quality. The programme is suitable for highly motivated and talented individuals who would like to pursue an international career at universities and other academic institutions, or in public or private sector organisations. Our objective is to be a leading research institution in Europe, and the programme has a strong international focus. The programme offers prospective students specialisations on a wide range of topics. The entire programme is taught in English.

The department emphasises student-faculty interaction, including student participation in department seminars, faculty-student research collaboration, and faculty-student teaching collaboration.
The department runs a programme of weekly faculty seminars where PhD students and faculty members present and discuss their research, facilitating early feedback. Students are also encouraged to present papers at international conferences and to stay one or two semesters at universities abroad.
All eligible PhD students receive financial support for the duration of the three-year programme, provided they meet the programme’s minimum requirements. We offer generous financial support to students with excellent credentials. There is no tuition fee for attending the programme as public education in Norway is free, and NHH is a public institution.

The NHH campus is in the city of Bergen in Norway. The campus is beautifully situated just outside downtown Bergen, overlooking one of the many fjords of Western Norway. The city offers a safe environment and high standards of living. This environment is conducive to academic creativity and makes it possible for our students to be productive in the PhD programme. The business school has more than 2500 full time students, and a faculty of about 110.
Students should already hold a masters degree covering central business administration topics. It is a prerequisite that applicants are interested and motivated to pursue their PhD within one of the stated areas of research.
Students with only an undergraduate degree will normally not be considered. Moreover, recent GMAT or GRE tests are necessary to be considered for enrollment in the programme.
