The principal activity of the Department is research and teaching related to special domain languages for economics and business administration, as dictated primarily by the need for specific communication competence among students in NHH's Bachelor programme.
At the master level the Department offers independent electives on LSP and Culture (French, German and Spanish), combining further development of communicative competence and cultural knowledge through the study of texts used in various business-related contexts.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Research the Department executes NHH's formal and practical responsibility for the National Translator Accreditation Exam. One staff member is specially assigned to the supervision and organisation of the exam, assisted by an executive board. Besides the undergraduate programmes in business language the translator training consists of intensive workshops.
The department has since 2001 been an associated member of CIUTI (Conférence
internationale permanente d'instituts universitaires de t5raducteurs et interprètes).
