INVITATION/ CALL FOR PAPERS
We welcome papers from any discipline relevant for finance and insurance to be submitted for presentation at the symposium. However, this year we especially want to focus on Solvency II, securitization of insurance risks, and fair market value of pension and insurance liabilities.

Researchers who want to present a paper at the symposium are encouraged to submit papers to any member of the program committee.

April 1, 2006.

KARL BORCH LECTURE
The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration has scheduled its annual Karl Borch Lecture immedialtely after this symposium. This year’s Karl Borch lecturer is Professor Stephen A. Ross from MIT. Professor Ross gives two seminars, the first on Thursday afternoon and the official Karl Borch lecture on Friday May 12 at 12:15pm. More information about this event can be found on http://www.nhh.no/for/borch-lecture. Participants of the symposium are (of course) very welcome to attend the Karl Borch Lecture free of charge.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
The first page of the paper should contain the title, an abstract of no more than 150 words, name of the author(s), complete address, telephone, fax numbers and e-mail addresses. Please, submit your paper to any member of the program commitee.

OUR SPEAKERS
 

    Samuel H. Cox
  Dr. Samuel H. Cox is a tenured full professor and Thomas P. Bowles, Jr. Chairholder in Actuarial Science at Georgia State University. Dr. Cox has taught actuarial science, risk management and insurance, and mathematical risk management at GSU since 1994. Professor Cox earned BA and MS degrees at Texas Christian University and a PhD at Louisiana State University, all in mathematics. Dr. Cox is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (1980), a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (1980), a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (1996), a charterholder of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute since 2003, and a honorary member of the Swiss Association of Actuaries since 2002. Dr. Cox helped create the North American Actuarial Journal and served as its first editor. He has held several leadership positions in the actuarial profession, including a three-year term on the Board of Governors of the Society of Actuaries (2001 2003). He is co-author of textbooks in financial economics, life insurance mathematics, and finance. His papers have been published in top ranking actuarial science, mathematics, and risk management and insurance journals.
     
     
    J. David Cummins
  J. David Cummins is the Harry J. Loman Professor of Insurance and Risk Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His fields of specialization include industrial organization of insurance markets, securitization, financial risk management, productivity, and efficiency. Dr. Cummins has published more than eighty refereed journal articles, thirty-two book chapters, and has written or edited sixteen books. He has received more than twenty prizes for his research. Among his recent books are Handbook of International Insurance: Between Global Dynamics and Local Contingencies (Springer), Changes in the Life Insurance Industry: Efficiency, Technology, and Risk Management (Kluwer Academic), and Deregulating Property-Liability Insurance: Restoring Competition and Increasing Market Efficiency (The Brookings Institution). Dr. Cummins also has served as consultant to numerous business and governmental organizations including the American Insurance Association, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He is a pastpresident of the American Risk and Insurance Association and has served as editor of the Journal of Risk and Insurance. He currently is co-editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance and Associate Editor of eight other refereed journals.
