Research group in Economic History
Research topics
The research group in economic history is very diverse, and the members are currently engaged in various Norwegian, Scandinavian and international research networks and projects.
Three areas of research have been particularly important in recent years. The first is historical national accounts, with the unique material in the Wedervang-archive of Norwegian wages and prices placed at the NHH. The second is maritime history, in particular whaling and modern merchant shipping. The final area of research is quantitative monetary history, including monetary statistics for Norway, dealing with the development of prices, interest rates and exchange rates in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Networks
Members of the research group are involved in two large-scale Norwegian projects. One project is research on monetary history in connection with the 2016 bicentennial of Norges Bank. The other project, under the auspices of the University of Oslo, is currently researching and writing the history of Norwegian shipping. Members of the research groups also participate in a number of international network, including Large-Scale Historical Industrial Exploitation of Polar Areas (LASHIPA), The International Maritime Economic History Association (IMEHA). The Editorship of the Scandinavian Economic History Review has twice been placed at the NHH.
