Karen Helene M. Knarvik receives award

Karen Helene Midelfart Knarvik received the Ingvar Wedervang Award for Young Researchers today. The award is worth 30,000 Kroner and was provided this year by SNF’s fund for applied research.

 

Karen Helene Midelfart Knarvik (33) completed her PhD at Norges Handelshøyskole in 1996 with her dissertation entitled, "On the Location of Economic and Academic Activity". From 1997 until 1999 she was connected to SNF as a researcher and later as head of research. Since January of 2000 she has been connected to the Department of Economics at Norges Handelshøyskole as a post doctorate.

Through various team efforts Knarvik has built a strong internal and external network, which she has used to further develop the research environment at NHH. In the short five years that have passed since Karen Helene Midelfart Knarvik started her career as a researcher, she has published six articles in distinguished international journals. Additionally, she has authored many articles in Norwegian journals and has a long series of working papers. Most of her working papers are issued by the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

Karen Helene Midelfart Knarvik’s research draws on new theories for international trade and sustainable development, especially on what is often called new economic geography. Within this academic field, Knarvik has contributed theoretically to both empirical and policy-oriented research. Among other things, she has focused on the interaction between tax politics and the basis for sustainable business development. She also took part in a large international study of the localisation of businesses in Europe.
