Aims and objectives for education

Aims

NHH will have a broad educational offering within the fields of Economics and Business Administration, spanning all levels from undergraduate to doctoral degrees. Study programmes will be on a par with those offered by the best international educational institutions and will attract outstanding students nationally and internationally. 

NHH will have an attractive learning and student environment.

The study programmes will be self-contained entities and provide a solid basis for both employment and further study. Together, the bachelor’s and master’s programmes will constitute a full and comprehensive course of study.

Teaching will be research-based, maintain a high academic and pedagogic level and facilitate good learning processes. Variety in teaching and assessment methods will contribute to students acquiring wide-ranging knowledge and skills. Teaching and assessment methods will be adapted to suit the distinctive character of each course and programme.

Teaching will have a grounding in ethics and social responsibility, and ensure that students acquire relevant knowledge, solid competence and good attitudes.

NHH will endeavour to achieve a balanced gender distribution in all study programmes.

NHH graduates will be attractive candidates on the national and international job markets and to internationally recognised educational institutions for further study.

NHH will offer experience-based, high-quality executive education. These study programmes will be attractive to candidates from different educational backgrounds. 

 

The bachelor’s programme

The bachelor’s programme will be the best course of study at the undergraduate level within the fields of Economics and Business Administration in Norway, designed for an annual intake of between 430 and 450 students.

Objectives

• The bachelor’s programme will be the clear first choice within the fields of Economics and Business Administration, and will attract the best students in Norway
• The bachelor’s programme will be a Norwegian course of study, with teaching quality on a par with the best international educational institutions
• The bachelor’s programme will be attractive to a wide range of applicants and have a student body that is representative of the population as a whole
• The bachelor’s programme will be run as a uniform, broad-based study programme in Economics and Business Administration
• The bachelor’s programme will ensure academic breadth and depth, as well as a high analytical level
• The bachelor’s programme will teach students the communication skills required to perform professionally in an international arena
• The bachelor’s programme will inspire students to undertake further studies and provide a solid basis for such studies at master’s and doctoral level, both in Norway and abroad

The master’s programmes

The master’s programmes will be amongst the best in Europe within the fields of Economics and Business Administration.  The master’s programmes will be designed for an annual intake of up to 700 students.

Objectives

• The master’s programmes will attract the best students in Norway as well as international students at a high academic level
• The master’s programmes will be interdisciplinary and theme-based
• The master’s programmes will expose students to both national and international issues
• The master’s programmes will have a clear professional orientation, with research-based teaching of a high standard
• The master’s programmes will ensure students good academic progression
• The master’s programmes will inspire students to pursue doctoral studies  and form a sound basis for such studies within the fields of Economics and Business Administration
• NHH master’s graduates  will be attractive candidates in both national and international job markets


The PhD programme

The PhD programme will be the leading and most comprehensive doctoral education within the fields of Economics and Business Administration in Norway. The programme will be international and of an academic standard on a par with those offered by internationally recognised universities and business schools.

Objectives

• The PhD programme will be attractive to outstanding Norwegian and international students
• The PhD programme will have a high completion rate and sufficient capacity to increase the number of successful candidates to at least 20 per year
• NHH will educate candidates who are attractive in an international job market, and will assist them in seeking future employment
• The PhD programme will educate a substantial proportion of future teaching and research staff within the fields of Economics and Business Administration in Norway
• The PhD programme will be coordinated with the activities of the national research schools to ensure high quality and efficient use of institutional and national resources


Executive education

NHH will be the qualitative leader in the Nordic countries in experience-based, executive education courses within the fields of Economics and Business Administration.

Objectives

• NHH will offer executive education programmes that promote the exchange of experience between the academic environment, business and the public sector
• NHH’s experience-based master’s level programmes will set the standard for this type of programme in the Nordic countries
• NHH will develop tailor-made courses for the private and public sectors
• NHH will further develop cooperation with leading international universities and business schools
• NHH will continue to develop relations with students and their present and future employers
• NHH will increase the number of applications to its open executive programmes
• NHH’s executive education courses will generate resources that strengthen research activities at the school

 

The learning and student environment

NHH will have an attractive learning and student environment. NHH will cooperate with NHHS to preserve the unrivalled student environment so that it can continue to represent a unique advantage for NHH.

Objectives

• NHH will facilitate high-quality study and career guidance
• NHH will provide comprehensive information for students at the start of their program and throughout their course of studies
• NHH will provide good working conditions and infrastructure for students
• NHH will ensure equal access to studies for students with disabilities
• NHH will collaborate with the Student Welfare Organisation in Bergen (SiB) on further development of, and information about, student welfare services
• NHH will, together with NHHS, help to ensure an active and inclusive student environment
• NHH will facilitate student involvement at the School, and help ensure that all students are integrated into the student environment in the best possible way
