Ingvar Wedervang (1936 – 1956)
Prior to becoming the first rector at NHH, Ingvar Wedervang was a professor of economics and statistics at the University of Oslo. He was considered a practically orientated economist, and played a key role in the establishment and consolidation of NHH as an institution. Furthermore Wedervang won respect as a rector due to his authoritative and determined style of management. As a result of his pro-Norwegian sympathies he sat in a German concentration camp during a period of world war two. I 1947 he was appointed commander of the order of St Olav, and an officer of the French Legion of Honour.
