Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, major in Energy, Natural Resources and the Environment
Structure of the programme
The MSc Economics and Business Administration programme at NHH enables the specialisation in Energy, Natural Resources and the Environment to be combined with courses in other fields.
The ENE master is one of eight specialisations in the two-year MSc in Economics and Business Administration
programme at NHH. All courses are taught in English.
The programme consists of 12 courses and a thesis adding up to a total of 120 points (equivalent to ECTS credits) - 90 points for the 12 courses and 30 points for the thesis. Normally one would follow courses in three semesters and dedicate the final semester to the thesis.
The general course plan for a major in the ENE specialisation comprises:
- Six core courses from the ENE specialization
- Six elective courses from amongst all the MSc specialisations at NHH
The other MSc specialisations in Economics and Business Administration offered at NHH are:
- Business Analysis and Performance
- Economic Analysis
- Economics
- Financial Economics
- International Business
- Marketing and Industrial Economics
- Strategy and Management
It is recommended that four of the elective courses be taken from one and the same specialisation in order to enable a minor profile that supports the ENE specialisation.
Mandatory courses
The ENE specialization offers a range of core courses, of which six courses are considered methodological. Students must take at least one methodological course. In order to widen the range of relevant topics a series of seminars is offered. A seminar counts as 1/3 of a regular course, and students may include a combination of three seminars as a core course. One seminar can be replaced by an internship of a duration of one month at a company whose main activities are in ENE sectors.
Further information abut the requirements of the internships is to be found here.
Seminar topics are subject to change in order to focus on current topics of interest to the sector and the availability of guest researchers visiting NHH and their areas of expertise.

For students having ENE as a major it is recommended to concentrate the course selection to cover two of the specializations listed above.

The thesis may for instance be the application of case studies, marketing research, project work or essays.
Tutoring is mandatory
Two students may cooperate in writing their thesis. The thesis should be between 50 and 80 pages. If two students cooperate, an increase in length of about 50 per cent is expected.
The thesis must be written in English.
Exchange program
The opportunities for exchange enable the ENE-master at NHH to become a truly international experience with a semester taken at one of our partner schools elsewhere in Europe or on another continent.
The exchange opportunities are open to all ENE students, with the widest choice available to those who already have a grounding in a second major European language (in addition to English) as some of our exchange partners have language requirements based on their main language of teaching.
